Moving with Children, Delco Moving Company
The Effects of Moving with Children

Moving with Children will Impact their lives

Moving with Children can be hard on them.  The insecurity of meeting new friends, joining new sports teams and losing the security of their home all comes into play.  How they cope depends a lot on how you handle it.  Showing the positive side to the move will help.  Additionally, listening to them, loving them and encouraging them all help!  Please read the following tips for some helpful ideas for helping them cope.

Include Your Kids in the Packing Process

Excluding your kids from the packing process won’t make any part of this experience easier for them. They could feel excluded. Help them decide what to keep or give away. Encourage them to go through their toys or clothes to decide what stays and what goes. This will help them with closure on the old home.  Kids can purge too!

Throw Them a Goodbye Party for their Friends

A party for your kids is a great way for them to say goodbye to their friends and have some closure.  Make contact cards for their friends with a picture of them together.  Take it at the party.  Then you can mail the photo of them to their friends with your new contact info.  Make it fun with notes like “Keep in touch” or “Friends Forever”.  This event will make your kids feel special and appreciated.

Thank Them for Sacrificing with the Family

Listening to your Children’s emotions is important.  Share with them the reasons for the move and that it is what is best for your Family.  When you are moving with Children, they sacrifice as well.  Let the know how important they are and that you appreciate them.

MAintain Routines

If you’re relocating with newborns or toddlers, avoid changing the times of their meals, playtime, or bedtime. Sticking to their routine will lower the stress they’re experiencing, so let this be a top priority during and after the move.

Help Them Make New Friends

Making new friends is the greatest issue teenagers deal with. Younger kids don’t necessarily have an easier time, either. It’s not easy being the “New Kid”. Starting with neighbors may be a good start.  But don’t force them to hang out with someone they may not mesh with.  Getting them into activities, clubs and teams is an awesome way for them to make new connections.  Before you move to your new home, research which opportunities will be available for them. Eventually, with time, love and support, your children can have a wonderful life in their new home.
